These past three weeks have been some of the hardest I’ve faced as a parent. Watching my child battle something as profound and heavy as truama is a weight I never anticipated. It’s a reminder that trauma doesn’t discriminate and that it affects the youngest among us just as deeply as it does adults. And every day, when I see the Coin of Resilience, it’s my own reminder: stand strong, be flexible, and lean on those close to you—the friends who show up like an “octopus” wrapping their arms around you in support.
This coin was never just a symbol. It was born out of my journey through challenging times, crafted to remind me and others that resilience is a collective effort. It represents the resilience of the Kraken, strong yet adaptable, and the steadfast unity of the Spartan helmet. As a parent, the coin keeps me grounded, reminding me that even as I navigate this storm with my child, I have my own anchor points. There are friends and family, my trusted circle, who are there to support us, ready to carry some of the weight when it feels like too much.

Understanding Childhood Trauma
Trauma doesn’t only impact adults. Children, too, carry scars that may be unseen but cut just as deeply. And in many ways, these scars can weigh even heavier on them. Children haven’t had years to build up defenses, to develop tools to cope, or to lean into support networks they trust. Their world is smaller, and their struggles can feel overwhelming and all-consuming. For them, every challenge feels like an iceberg, and without life experience to guide them, they’re often fighting through uncharted waters.
As parents, we can’t carry their battles for them, but we can stand beside them, ready to offer support. The Coin of Resilience reminds me that just as I rely on my support, I must be that same constant for my child—a source of calm in the storm, someone they can lean on when the load gets heavy.
Building a Legacy of Love and Resilience
Seeing the coin daily is more than just a reminder of strength; it’s a reminder that resilience is built together. It’s a symbol of the unshakable, unconditional love that every child deserves. They need to know that, no matter how dark things feel, they are never alone. We are here for them, ready to wrap an arm around their shoulders and face life’s challenges together.
This journey is only beginning, and the path ahead will likely be challenging. But for now, I’m committed to being the parent my child needs, holding onto the purpose and power of the Coin of Resilience. Because together, we will push forward, drawing strength from one another and finding hope in knowing that love, at its core, is the ultimate anchor.
